1. This book follows 3 different timelines: the present day with Anise, Jonathan, and Nate; the recent past with Grace and Morty’s backstory; and the very distant past in ancient Mallandia with soldier Watrose and Jewelry engineers Dagan and Frondok. Which was your favorite to read and why?
2. Throughout the book, Anise is torn between being with Nate or Jonathan. What advice would you give to Anise? Are you Team Nate or Team Jonathan?
3. Grace has had several difficult situations she’s had to deal with throughout her life. After reading her backstory, have your feelings toward Grace changed since the first book in the series (Protection of Beauty)? Why or why not?
4. Jonathan keeps putting pressure on Anise to seek treatment for her agoraphobia even though she’s told him multiple times she not ready for that step yet. Why do you think he keeps pushing her?
5. How do you think things might have been different if Morty and Grace had stayed together? Were you sad for them when they broke up?
6. Grace is smart, but she never sees that Thomas married her for reasons other than love. Why do think she’s blind to this fact?
7. Professor Frederick Dromly enjoys telling adventurous tales of his life to anyone who’ll listen. Morty isn’t sure whether or not to believe the stories, as they seem too fantastical at times. Do you believe the stories, or do you think Fred is embellishing them?
